History of MOTMOT
This ministry was born out of a desire to provide teaching materials for leaders in developing nations. After being a missionary in three different parts of the world, I recognized the need for a transition that must occur. Most traditional “mission fields” are no longer mission fields. Churches are well established and able to function effectively by themselves. Most leaders are already strongly discipled and well trained biblically. What could a North American missionary do to further help them?
The Lord showed me how to move to the next level in order to help teachers become better EQUIPPED. Leaders of established churches in developing nations do not lack ability, but they do lack tools. Thus, MOTMOT™ was created as a tool for them. It can be used immediately and effectively by existing church leadership to teach, mobilize, and equip their own people. They should do the teaching themselves because they are very capable of doing it themselves. MOTMOT™ simply provides a tool to do this task.
Purpose of MOTMOT
Eph 4:11,12 says: “He gave some as… teachers, to equip the saints to build up the body of Christ.” It is not enough for a teacher to teach. There is also a second aspect included in this calling. The teacher must equip others to teach. They must multiply their gift (Mt 25:14-27) or they will lose it (Mt 25:28,29). National teachers must teach and must also reproduce more national teachers. This is the purpose of MOTMOT™ — to mobilize other teachers to teach. In this way, the teachings are multiplied and the process is ongoing.
There is one critical aspect of this ministry. It is free. The teachings are to be given freely. This does not mean that teachers of these materials cannot receive support for their ministry (Lk 10:7; 1Tim 5:17,18). It simply means the materials cannot be sold for profit or used to secure control of a ministry (for example, to give the materials to others in exchange for control or credit, or recognition for your own ministry). These materials have been given freely and must continue to be given freely (Mt 10:8).
In keeping with the method of giving the materials freely, the author also wants it to be understood that he neither requires nor makes available any sort of registration with or coming under his ministry. MOTMOT is free!
Design of MOTMOT
A complete set of these materials includes 49 courses, totaling 700 instructional hours. There are 28 courses of 10 hour length, and 21 courses that are 20 hours. These materials are designed to be used by national leaders who are able to teach others. Thus, a certain amount of Bible knowledge is assumed. The material is in “teaching outline form” and is designed to be used as a general guide. The materials are most effective when the teacher applies their God given teaching gift and uses their own style, including: cultural examples, stories, analogies, explanations, and applications. In this way, MOTMOT™ is actually more of a tool than a curriculum.
The materials focus on what the Bible says and not the author’s cultural understanding or application. They are developed in an integrated and systematic way to provide teachers with a complete tool or package. The goal is to offer a well-rounded set of materials that focus on knowing God and making Him known. Missions is certainly an emphasis and hopefully many workers will be sent into the harvest (Mt 10:38). However, a missionary is first and foremost a minister of the Word of God. He must be thoroughly trained and discipled in a systematic way in a variety of areas. This is also true for pastors, evangelists, and teachers.
